Young adult novels I have missed for longer. I had no knowledge of them when I was growing up. I think I was a reading of Where The Wild Things Are straight Goodnight Moon and Stephen King and Daphne du Maurier. I also remember vividly that captivated when I read a Tale of Two Cities and The Scarlet Letter. But do not think Dickens or Hawthorne was a young teenager in the Bronx Puerto Rican South East in mind when he wrote his books.

That is, there was a lot of authors speaking to me and my experiences. I think people, all people, need to be reflected in society. Whether through television, magazine ads, billboards, our politicians, our teachers or the books we read. It's very special, and yes, even essential, to get the validation to be recognized in the culture we live in young adult books are finally doing so.

With (also known as the author Trish Milburn Tricia Mills) monthly news column RNTV YA (each third Thursday of the month), I'm starting to get an idea of the scope of literature available to young people. This was reinforced at last weekend's Book Expo America (BEA). Everywhere I turned the editors were already highlighted their authors and books.

More and more youths are exposed to and experience a world that, lack of a better phrase, out of the closet and Judy Blume books are no longer sufficient for them. Today young people are living with 24-hour news and immediately and without restrictions on information from his face. Communication is instantaneous. They live in single parent homes, two houses of dad, mom of two homes, foster homes and sometimes in house is not at all.

They deal with poverty, gender, pregnancy, abortion, drugs, alcohol, gangs, disease and death, and not afraid to talk about it. The books for young adults today do not only relate to these issues and talk to their emotions, but also treat their life, thoughts, issues and problems of matter. The books reflect their lives - and that's powerful!

Also there are plenty of YA fantasy books available. This tells me that young adults as older adults, occasionally, the need to escape. To be transported to a world of their decisions. In a world that is unlike that of life inch (Is not it true for all of us?) The interesting thing is that young people are reading and the authors write for this audience.

What I find truly amazing about books NOW today (that I've been reading) is that they have great cross over appeal in terms of age. I'm well beyond my adulthood, and yet I was captivated for many of these books. (It goes to show that writing a book, tell a good story, and always find an audience.) The power of a book, no matter who you are, no matter the gender or age, is waiting to be released. Just turn to the first page and begin.

what in the dickens is wrong with hip hop today?

okay.. first of all, i dont have any problem with gay people.. you do your thing and i do mine, just dont get in my way.
what ever happened to good ol' rap music? i remember playing the college drop out for the very first time and i knew hip hop wasn't dead... now i just played kanye's latest album.. it sucks. he's gone so gay it hurts.
Then there's lil wayne... the kid that came out with good rhymes... and now i just checked pictures of him kissing grown man on the mouth.. like the f**k?!
seems like every rapper is jumpin outta the closet. jus saw camron dressed in pink.. like everything he had on even the phone was pink... pharell and kanye going around town with man purses.
Deksels!!! dont tell me about fashion. What happened to good ol' rap music and keeping it hood?.. Money really does make weak men seem like wussies...
