Are heated pet (cat) beds safe?

A vet tech, I think it was, once told me that heated pet beds can be dangerous... My cat, Kali, has cancer. Though I think she's in a remission stage... (she had breast cancer, and had a radical mastectomy, in a sense, removing all that tissue. It's been 6 months and it hasn't returned, though she hasn't had x-rays in about 2 months).

She's also getting older... about 12 years old.

But do you think it's safe? Does anyone have experience with these?

I've never purchased a heated pet bed, but I know that when I use the electric underblanket on my bed I have to fight my two cats for room on the bed (lol). As with any electrical item, the wiring needs to be checked regularly to ensure it's not broken.

You can make a wheat filled heat pad, which can be heated in either a conventional oven or a microwave, and it will retain it's heat for around 2-3 hours. This link explains how to do this.

I don't know what type of heating you have in your home, but cats do seem to like the fleece hammocks that attach to wall mounted radiators. See the link below for details.
